The Principals

Guardian’s team is led by the two Principals, Marvin R. Lang and Anthony G. LaBarbera, who have worked together since 1993. They have an intimate knowledge of the commercial office space in their targeted market and 68 combined years of experience in the acquisition/ sale and management of Class B and B+ office buildings.

Guardian’s team consists of 91 real estate professionals with a proven track record of maintaining and operating a successful real estate portfolio. The Principals believe that the high standards applied to their hiring and retention of professionals has resulted in a very high level of tenant satisfaction at each of Guardian’s properties. The depth of the team’s expertise includes all facets of real estate management

The Principals:

Marvin R. Lang, Managing Director of Guardian and Chairman of the Board

Chairman of the Executive Committee of GRM since 1992 and a member of the Firm’s Investment Committee, Mr. Lang has over 41 years experience in acquiring, developing, lending, leasing and managing commercial real estate. He has purchased, built and sold over 50 office buildings, developed several multifamily and residential projects and developed farms into 2,000 single-family lots in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia.

Previously, Mr. Lang was a founder and former Vice Chairman of Standard Federal Savings Bank. The Bank originated and purchased residential and commercial mortgages and serviced in excess of $35,000,000,000 in residential and commercial mortgages.

Mr. Lang graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science degree and a major in real estate. He is a licensed real estate broker in Washington, DC and Maryland, and has been a member of the National Association of Real Estate Appraisers and National Association of Review Appraisers.


Anthony G. LaBarbera, Managing Director and President

Mr. LaBarbera has been Chief Executive Officer since 1993 and has over 27 years of experience in the commercial real estate business.

Mr. LaBarbera is a member of the Firm’s Investment Committee and is responsible for Guardian’s senior management policy, strategic planning, asset management operations, capital placement, and transaction structuring. He has directed over $1 Billion of commercial real estate transactions including acquisitions, sales, financing (first mortgage institutional debt, private placements, mezzanine loans, construction loans and development lines of credit) and leasing.

From 1986 to 1992, Mr. LaBarbera was the Chief Financial Officer for DANAC Corporation, a mid-size regional commercial developer/builder/owner. Previously, from 1980 to 1986, Mr. LaBarbera was in the Real Estate and Financial Institutions Group of Arthur Andersen & Co.’s Washington, DC Office, and in 1985 was promoted to Senior Audit Manager. He is a Certified Public Accountant and has been listed in the Who’s Who Worldwide Registry. Mr. LaBarbera graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
